After an adventurous journey from Zurich to Kazakhstan, we (a Swiss woman, the local youth group and I) started the mountain camp in the south of the city. We spent five refreshing days in the mountains with ample rest, good conversations and a lot of experiences. Preparations for children's camp began after this week. I was responsible for the Floorball group at forenoon. Unfortunately, we did not have any other option but to play hockey on a football ground; but that is also fun. The children, especially the Kazakh boys had a splendid time. The two camp weeks with the children gave us a very good opportunity to help them get acquainted with the sport. When the school restarted, I was asked by a private school to take up the sports classes. This, being a trained baker - confectioner, was a great challenge for me. It gave me the chance to bring Floorball to the students. In a short while, the sport became so popular, that the students requested me to give them the sticks to play during the breaks as well. When the school routine and time table was in place, we began with the 'Club' on Saturday after school. The Club soon won a great fan following; even children from first class came to us to play hockey. But our intent was to reach the young people from the fifth class and higher and this, for us, was a problem. The problem was that several 'kids' came and so the older ones did not want to come, which was quite understandable.
Unfortunately, I could not help with the solution as I had to get back home. I hope that the local in-charges can find a solution to reach out to all children with Floorball.
So, here's the next report on Floorball! We have just introduced it in a school and now offer it as a school sport. This then presents the chance to win over fans quickly! Every Saturday is Floorball Club day. We have around 15-20 interested people. Everything is still in the initial phase, but we wish to offer a Floorball camp for youth and children in summer of 2008. We are still planning it. Everything arrived well in the packaging, including the Kazakh helmet with our luggage. We still need a lot more, but since we are just introducing the sport, we are taking it easy with all the good materials.
