Kirgizstan

March 2010

The capital city Bishkek and its suburbs have various floorball training programs, including one in a youth prison. Most of the boys who are criminally active and are imprisoned have the same behavioral pattern. Many of them come from poor, dysfunctional families where alcoholism, drug abuse and behavioral problems are common. The children run away, thus becoming street children. They are highly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse in all sorts of ways. Often, they themselves turn into (violent) offenders. Konrad and his team try to help the boys get back into normal life again and get integrated into the society. For this reason, they run a weekly program in the prison that focuses on character and life training, and floorball. They also try to provide practical help to such youth.

2009

Two Floorball kits have been incorporated in Kirgistan since around three years. Sadly, they are used every now and then and not regularly. There are currently no regular trainings here. The Floorball kits are gladly and often used for camps, fun and free times. We hope that training can take place regularly in the coming times.
