Summer 2008

There were some upheavals in the supporting body locally which compromised the Floorball project. But we are holding discussions with coaches and referees to bring the Floorball project back on track.

Summer 2007

(This report by Lukas and Steffi shows how successful even a trip as short as three-week can be)

Our venture into Manila was with the goal of bringing Floorball to the street children. We were accommodated in home for the street children and trained for two hours every morning with these children.

During the afternoons, we went to the drop-in centre for street children. This place offered these children bathing facilities and a chance to obtain an alternate education. We could start a 10-day training camp with them. There were over 100 children for the first session, as this was a public place. We had to conduct three sessions to handle the numbers. The excitement for Floorball in the area was so great that even the spectators joined in.

We found it difficult to cope with the heat, humidity, constant noise, dirt, and the unimaginable crowd. After 10 days of intensive training, we concluded with a big tournament that involved about 60 children. While the training was going on, we could introduce social workers and the in-charge of the drop-in center to game of Floorball as well. We managed to put together three weeks of exhausting intensive training before we left for home. The children that we dealt with impressed us a lot and the city left a lasting impression of the poverty that is prevalent there.
